Proverbs 31:28 – Qowph
[bibleblock]Proverb 31:28[/bibleblock]
![]()
Verse 28 begins with the Hebrew letter qowph, which represents the back of the head. As she patiently sows good seed into her husband’s and children’s lives, the virtuous woman may not always hear their gratitude and praise for her efforts. But they will praise her behind her back.
Her children will call her blessed when they “rise up.” This does not mean her young children get up in the morning and greet her with “Mom, you’re the greatest blessing in my life.” Most likely she will hear, “Mom, I;m hungry. Can we have some pancakes instead of cereal today?”
The phrase “rise up” actually means to grow up. It is only after the children grow up and have to do things for themselves that they begin to realize and appreciate all their mother has done for them through the years. When that happens, it is a great harvest for her. Until that time, however, she may not hear a lot of praise and thanks from them.
She may not hear a lot of praise and thanks from her husband either. Many a man can only praise his wife to someone else. He has a difficult time praising her directly to her face. But this verse is saying she can be sure he is praising her behind her back.
