Proverbs 31:25 – Ayin

Ayin, the first Hebrew letter of verse 25, is the picture of a fountain. This is not to be confused with the symbol of a fountain as a type of the man’s sexual strength. This fountain represents honor.
A fountain requires tremendous pressure underneath to push up the water. This point of tremendous energy is the place from which the virtuous woman draws her strength from God. It is the place from which she chooses to do right; it is therefore the origin of her honor.
When a woman draws her strength from within, focusing more on the development of her heart than the adorning of her body, strength and honor clothe her. In 1 Peter 3:3-4, peter exhorts women to adorn the “hidden person of the heart.” He says that by keeping her priorities in line with Scripture, a wife becomes a precious ornament to the Lord and her husband.
When a wife’s priorities are out of line, she can cause embarrassment and even dishonor to her husband. If she gives in to restlessness and distraction, is constantly on the run, often getting involved in worthy causes to help justify her flight, or is consumed with television programs, she will fall. Keeping priorities in line avoids dishonor.
This verse also says “she laughs at the time to come”. This is a contrast to the constant worrying and fear many people face the future with. This also means she will laugh in the face of growing older. In a world where getting old is one of the greatest fears we have, the woman who laughs at her wrinkles is truly a rare find.
The harvest she reaps from her honorable way of life is that the storms of life do not beat her down as the years go by. Instead, her strength and wisdom increase, making her even more beautiful.
From the fountain of wisdom within, the virtuous woman brings honor to her husband.
