Proverbs 31:23 – Nuwn
[bibleblock]Proverb 31:23[/bibleblock]
![]()
Verse 23 begins with the letter nuwn. Nuwn is the Hebrew letter for a fish, which in ancient times symbolized concentration.
A husband can concentrate fully on his work when he knows all is well at home. There is no way a man can perform his best on the job if things are not right in his marriage.
One of the hardest thing for a man to admit is that he needs his wife. A man likes to believe he can do everything on his own, that he doesn’t need a good relationship with his wife to fulfill his calling or profession. This is nothing more than pride. to have an intimate relationship with God and a successful ministry, a husband must have an intimate, successful relationship with his wife.
The husband in this verse is someone who bears great responsibilities. The word gates refers to governments and indicates this man is in a position of great authority in the country. Bathsheba was probably thinking if David, who was king of Israel, and the burdens she had helped him shoulder throughout the years. Her excellence in the home allowed him to concentrate on affairs of state.
The verses following this one sounds as if they are about the woman, but actually they are an extension, or rather a reflection, of this verse about the man. they tell specifically how she stands with him in all he does, and the honor she brings him.
