Proverbs 31:17 – Cheth

Cheth is the next Hebrew letter and the third one that represents a house.  Cheth represents an enclosure.

A wife is the physical enclosure for her husband.  No matter how tired she is, when he comes home and she draws up her inner strength to meet him and surround him with her love.  Her sexual passion for him puts a supernatural hedge of protection around his life.

Bathsheba also used the word strength in Proverbs 31:3.  She instructed Solomon not to give his sexual strength to women (or mistresses) but to save himself for his wife.  Now Bathsheba lets a wife know she should take the time to refresh herself and have an attitude to please her husband sexually.

“makes her arms strong” actually means that she encourages her arms to meet him.  She throws her arms around him as though she had done nothing all day but think about him.

If you consider all that this woman has done in the other verses, this is amazing.  She bought material for clothing; she traveled far, if necessary, to get the best buy on the best food, she awoke early to prepare the food; she purchased a field and planted a vineyard; you get the idea.

I’m sure she did some of these things every day and others over a period of time.  Still, after all this activity, you’d think she would be a wreck, and when her husband came home she would say, “Honey, I’m beat.  You’re on your own tonight.” Instead she chooses to please him.

Husbands, this principle applies to you as well.  There are many days when all you want to do is go home, eat and crawl into bed.  Nevertheless, you should draw upon your inward strength and show your wife and children the love and attention they deserve.

God does not want a husband coming through the door saying, “What a day.  Just feed  me and leave me alone.”  Nor does he want the wife to say, “Well, don’t expect me to do anything, because I’ve had an exhausting day too.”  Instead, He gives them the strength to embrace each other.

God grants a supernatural strength for husbands and wives to love one another, and this special grace is not just for times of crisis or disagreement.  God’s strength is also available for times when you are simply tired but your mate needs you to express your love anyway.

Keeping sexual passion alive builds a solid enclosure of protection around your marriage.
