Proverbs 31:15 – Vav

[bibleblock]Proverb 31:15[/bibleblock]

Beth

Vav, or vau, the next letter of the Hebrew alphabet, is the beginning of the next verse.  Vav is the picture of a hook, or a peg.  Such as a coat hook in the entryway of a house.  In other words, the whole family hangs upon the virtuous woman;  they rest upon her.

This verse speaks of how the wife is the foundation of her home.  The saying is very true that “a man works from sun up to sun down, but a woman’s work is never done.”  Bathsheba wanted Solomon to understand the many different tasks a wife has.  Often a husband doesn’t know the time, effort,  planning, and sacrifice it takes for a wife to do these things on a daily basis.

Proverbs 31:15 says the virtuous woman gets up early to prepare food for her family, and we know from the previous verse that she has taken great care in choosing the food.  But, wives, it also says she assigns tasks to her maids.  So paying for outside help is perfectly acceptable if you can afford it.  That may not really be an option for many, but it is still an option.
