"But if anyone loves God, he is known by God." 1Cor 8:3

Proverbs 31: The Conclusion

I’ve heard the question before, “How can I possibly attain to such high standards as these?  There is no way I can do all this – I’m not Superwoman!”

My reply to this is, “You are Superwoman.  You may not do the exact same things as the woman Bathsheba describes, but your attitude and life goals can be the same.”

And the wives are not the only ones on whom the Bible places superhuman demands.  Husbands are to love their wives as Jesus loves the Church.  That is a very tall order order for any man. “But no one can be like Jesus!  He was perfect!” But God has given all believers the grace and supernatural strength to attain every goal He has given.

The relationship described in Proverbs 31 is not some far-fetched ideal which worked to David and Bathsheba in a much simpler time, but is unrealistic for us.  This is a way of life God offers to all couples in every generation.

His principles for marriage are true for all situations and circumstances.

[bibleblock]1 Cor 3:3[/bibleblock]

The Amplified Bible translates the last part of this verse as,

“Are you not unspiritual and of the flesh, behaving yourselves after a human standard and like mere (unchanged) men?”

We are not called to walk as “mere” men, because we are children of teh Most High!

If we find our marriage is in trouble with envying, strife and division, we had better ask ourselves if we’ve been living as “mere” men.  Have we been following our own self-centered desires instead of loving and honoring our spouse as the gift of grace they are? Have we fallen info unforgiveness, laziness or pride?  Have we neglected to appropriate supernatural wisdom from the Word and supernatural strength from the Holy Spirit?

Your marriage should reflect the wisdom, the blessing, the honor and the glory of the One you follow.  Open your spiritual eyes and look past the facade of the natural.  See the big “S” on your chest.  God put it there when you became His child.  Through Jesus Christ you are superman and superwoman, established on God’s promises and empowered by His Holy Spirit.

Something wonderful happens when you draw upon His Spirit to line your marriage up with His truth.  When a husband loves his wife as Jesus loves the Church, and his wife responds in passionate submission, the whole world see how marriage for believers is supernatural.  the wife’s signature is written upon the husband’s heart by nothing less than the grace and miraculous power of God.

When a husband and wife set their hearts on eternal things, their harvest is eternal.  All the years of putting God first, living uncompromised lives according to His Word, following the guidance of the Holy Spirit and imparting these things to their children reap the blessings of God for many generations.

There is no greater witness of God’s unconditional, awesome love than a husband and wife who are one.
